This page explains how to apply for a place at our school whether at nursery, reception or if you wish to join later on an in-year transfer. It’s a good idea to arrange a tour of the school so you can meet our friendly staff and get a good feel for the place! Ask us what we have to offer and tell us a little bit about your family and what’s important to you.
If your child isn’t old enough to start school yet, you can still register an interest at the school by contacting the school office.
Applying for a place in our nursery
Nursery applications are handled by our school office. Children are normally admitted to our Nursery class from the term following their 3rd birthday (or later), though occasionally places are available from age 3.
All 3 and 4-year olds in England are entitled to 15 hours free childcare per week. Many families are entitled to 30 hours. You can use these hours for your time at Meltham Moor Nursery. See our nursery page for more information.
Applying for a place in reception
Applications for a place in our school from reception are handled by Kirklees Council through their school admissions process.
Children start reception year at primary school from the September after their fourth birthday, although by law children don't have to start school until the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.
If our school is over subscribed, our Admissions Policy (see below) will be used to decide which children are admitted. Our policy is determined by the Together Learning Trust.

| Monday 15th January 2024 | This is the closing date for your applications. Remember that a late application can severely reduce your chances of obtaining a place at your preferred school. |
| Tuesday 16th April 2024 | Parents/carers can log on to the Kirklees parent portal from 08:30am to see their offer of a school place and an email offer will be sent during the day to the email address the parent/carer used when submitting their application. |
| Wednesday 15th May 2024 | The last day for requesting an appeal for starting in September 2023. |
| June 2024 onwards | Appeal hearings take place. |

Starting school in another year
