Our Curriculum

At Meltham Moor we will ensure that every child can achieve their best personally, socially and academically.

The well-planned curriculum engages pupils’ interests and ignites their curiosity. Teachers work hard to ensure that pupils enjoy their learning and that they broaden their knowledge of life beyond their own community.

Our curriculum at Meltham Moor fosters children’s natural curiosity.  We believe that children learn best when they are interested and inspired and have a thirst for more.  Learning should have a consequence which results in the child seeing the world in a slightly different way; this is when deep learning takes place.  We believe that deep learning provides the children with the skills and knowledge that they are able to select and use in an ever-shifting world and society and be able to learn life-long.

We frequently provide enrichment opportunities to engage children’s learning and to give enjoyable experiences of the world.  We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.  We want to empower our children to be confident communicators so that they can express their opinions on a range of different topics and issues and make a positive contribution to the school and our local community.

We use our Meltham Moor Values (Aspiration, Confidence, Resilience, Compassion and a Love of Learning) to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.

Deep Learning

Our curriculum is skills based and knowledge rich; we cover less, and learn more, because we believe that our children should have the opportunity to study areas of the curriculum in greater depth.

Communication

Opportunities to develop communication are threaded throughout our curriculum so that children develop an ability to communicate with a variety of audiences in a range of ways.

Early Years

Nursery and Reception, the early years foundation stage, follow a tailored curriculum that forms a strong foundation for learning throughout their time at school.

Enrichment

Real and purposeful opportunities to learn both in and out of school take place and are mapped out through our ‘More at Meltham Moor’.  These opportunities provide all children at Meltham Moor with experiences from which they learn about the wonderful place they live in, and also their knowledge of life beyond their own community.
